Peterborough is a Heritage City and Cathedral City that next year will celebrate 900 years since its construction.
Peterborough is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK, in rural east of England, in the county of Cambridgeshire, with a population of approximately 200,000.
It is easy to commute into London and Cambridge and there are lots of interesting places to visit and plenty of shopping opportunities in the many shopping centres as well as events and activities all year round.
This impressive cathedral dates back 1300 years to Norman times. Although it was founded in the Anglo-Saxon period, its architecture is mainly Norman, following a rebuilding in the 12th century, Entry and tours are free. There are priceless Anglo-Saxon artefacts, Catherine of Aragon is buried here (one of Henry VIII’s wives) and there is magnificent architecture and grounds to see.
BRONZE AGE SITE IN FLAG FEN
Finest Bronze Age archaeological site in northern Europe. You can visit the reconstructed Bronze Age village and see the preserved, ritual causeway as well as swords and other offerings which were
England’s greatest Elizabethan stately home. It holds events and festivals, music, fireworks, exhibitions and the famous Burghley Horse Trials.
NENE VALLEY RAILWAY
UK’s leading steam engine and locomotive attraction. Take a ride on a steam train. See the River Nene viaduct which was completed in 1850, is Grade II* listed building and is the oldest cast iron bridge in the world transporting the East Coast Main Line across the River Nene or visit attractions Railworld and Wildlife Haven.
Enjoy walks and nature around the picturesque Ferry Meadows in the Nene Park, including water activities. Bring a picnic or treat yourself and family and friends in the two coffee shops. My personal favourite time to visit is Spring, seeing the beautiful carpets of bluebells in the Bluebell Woods. There are activities in the park all year including water sports and a miniature railway.
